Colossians gives present-day readers a glimpse of the world of the first-century church. We catch sight of the kinds of people who were in the church and the kinds of problems and questions they faced. This letter also acquaints us with the place of the church in the world and how believers practiced their faith in various life settings. At the same time, we see the church struggling with questions about which religious practices were consistent with the new faith its members had come
